Queen Mab sent word to Effie and Bryan (no I don't know how and didn't
ask, maybe later) that she was coming for an extended visit this summer.
The plan was to hitch a ride on the plane from Heathrow in England, with
the Beloved Glumqueen, who was also visiting area, Beloved Glumqueen is a
friend of David's and Queen Mab, Effie and Bryan figured out that when
they saw each other another ride could be planned.
The problem was... fairy morality is real lose with public transportation.
Hitching and stow-a-way is synonymous. They do NOT hitch rides in personal
vehicles nor do they come into someone's home without permission.
Bryan and Effie left it to me to explain to David that there was a group
of fairies in downtown Ithaca, NY waiting for a ride to Pumpkin Hill
outside of Aurora, NY. He does not see fairies, or so he says (I don't
believe it since there are beautifully made fairy houses all over his pear
farm on Pumpkin Hill).
David was having his scythe mended in Ithaca at a very competent shop on a
street behind the Ithaca Wegmans and needed to pick it up the VERY NEXT
DAY. The plan would be: Queen Mab and her entourage would meet David in
the parking lot of the metal workers building and ride home along with
him.
He agreed to do it, he even agreed to open the back of his SUV and say:
"It's okay to get in."
Now, David never, I mean hardly ever, makes a trip into the big city of
Ithaca without a list of shopping necessities and chores. This was no
exception. He had supplies to buy for the chickens, a grocery list, he had
to visit a client or two whose roofs needed repair. Lots of stuff to do.
But first and foremost was: Pick up the scythe blades. He could not mow
until...
He picked up the scythe blades.
I was most excited when he arrived back home. I was being cool though, I
just said:
"Did they do a good job mending the scythe blades?"
"OH MY GOSH!!!" (he my have said something stronger).
"I FORGOT TO PICK UP THE BLADES, I'LL HAVE TO GO BACK TOMORROW!
AND I FORGOT QUEEN MAB!!!!"
Effie and Bryan got in touch with Queen Mab and she spent the night at
the Wegmans, which fortunately is open all night. They slept on the seats
in the cafe and ate their way through the produce department. I am sure
the produce manager spent the entire next day looking for the varmints
that gnawed on tomatoes, lettuce, apricots, mushrooms, garlic, onions and
spilled a bottle of good salad dressing in the cafe.
The next day of course, David picked up the Scythe blades, Queen Mab and
her group of friends from the British Isles. He didn't forget to say:
"It's okay to get in."
She is still here and doesn't show any rush to leave the ripening pears,
tomatoes, the salad garden, the beautiful fairy houses and has taken to
riding Steinway the cat side saddle.
All is well, except... "Why is she here?"
